Royal Hawaiian Hotel Structural Steel Repairs

After 40 years of wear and tear at the Jersey Shore, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Wildwood Crest, NJ is undergoing a structural facelift to the steel supports on the north side of the building.  The precast plank deck supports are being replaced with galvanized steel.  The 8 vertical columns are also being replaced with new galvanized steel.  Mitchell Welding & Iron Works is also adding additonal support at various places around the decks overlooking the pool and making sure the Royal Hawaiian Hotel lasts well beyond another 40 years of families vacationing at the shore!

Maintaining the Structural Integrity of your Building

We all know metal and water don’t get along.  Throw some salt air into the mix, 30 mile an hour winds and freezing temperatures and you have the beginnings of a potential disaster.

For the past 30 years, Mitchell Iron Works has been doing damage assessments to trouble spots on the structural supports for Hotels, Motels, Condominiums and even small and large residences.  Proper maintenance of your structural steel support columns and beams will save you money, and possibly someone’s life.

Don’t know what to look for? Here are a couple signs that you should give us a call:

1.)  If you have rust spots showing up under the plaster enclosing a steel beam on your motel balconies or walkways, that means water is being trapped inside and rusting away the beam that supports the floor above.  If water has a way to get in, it needs a way to get out, or it will deteriorate the structural steel.

2.)  If you see flaky rust at the base of your column where it meets the concrete, you have water in there.  If a car accidentliy backs into that column, it can knock it right off the base.  We have seen this hundreds of times.

Call Mitchell Iron Works today for a FREE inspection of any areas you suspect might have structural deficiencies and we will let you if you should be concerned, what our recommendations would be for a cost-effective repair and what the process is to get everything safe again.

Here are a couple photos of trouble areas you should look for along with photos of repairs.  If you see anything similar to the photos below on your property, give us a call right away.
